Parents of young divers - take note!
Children under the age of 8 years MUST have a parent
at the pool BY LAW, the whole time the child is
diving. If you are using the gym or swimming pool whilst your under-eight
is diving, please inform a Committee member.
Children must NOT go into the main pool before,
(or after) their diving session unless they have bought a ticket to swim.
Also please note that swimming before diving can be tiring and make divers
less attentive which is not a good thing.
Important rules
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING RULES—THEY ARE HERE FOR YOUR
OWN SAFETY AND PROTECTION.
Club Safety Rules for dowload and home printing (Word Document)
These are in addition to any rules as stated by Waltham Forest Pool and Track. These rules were last revised on 12th January 2012 and will be strictly enforced to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all club members.
- ALWAYS check the depth of the water before diving. The best way to check this is to do a straight jump from the side. If your feet quickly touch the bottom DO NOT DIVE! This is especially important when visiting a pool you are unfamiliar with. Be aware that some modern diving pits have moveable floors so the water could be very shallow when you arrive. The area may not yet have been set up for the boards. ALWAYS check the digital depth indicator before you first dive.
- ALWAYS swim back under the board or platform you have dived from OR move straight to the far end of the diving pit. NEVER swim under any other boards.
- DO NOT move out onto any board or platform until told to do so. ALWAYS wait to be told when to dive. NO running on the 1m and 3m boards.
- DO NOT jump up and down on any board or platform until the previous person has left the pool area beneath.
- If your coach permits you to stay in the water between dives you MUST stay visible with you head above the water surface and you MUST NOT move out from the pool edge.
- ALWAYS ask if you do not understand an instruction and ALWAYS concentrate when you are on the board.
- DO NOT practice any dives or jumps in the swimming pool as it is not deep enough and you could hurt yourself.
- ALL divers must be able to i) swim at least 4 widths of the pool, ii) get out unaided without using the steps and iii) jump into deep water and go under.
- DO NOT run on the pool side.
- DO NOT push people in - even for a joke.
- ALWAYS ascend the board tower ladders one step at a time. ALWAYS descend the board tower ladders one step at a time and with your face into the rungs. Walking down the ladders with face outwards / back to the rungs is very dangerous – people have suffered broken legs doing this.
- NO misuse of chamois cloths or towels – ie) flicking other divers with them.
- NO food or drink allowed on the poolside. NO jewellery to be worn. Long hair MUST be tied back.
- ALL divers MUST do warm ups otherwise you will NOT be allowed to dive.
- Parents MUST NOT shout to their child(ren) from the viewing gallery during pool sessions or from the sidelines at dry land sessions. It is dangerously distracting to divers and undermines the authority of the coaches. Parents who persist in doing this may be asked to leave the area and their child’s membership of the club could be revoked in extreme cases.
Rules last revised on 12th January 2012
